Upcoming Fly Fishing Workshops and Clinics for 2019
January 26th brings the first of many special “on the water” workshops and clinics presented by Jon. The “Dry Fly Workshop” entails everything you need to know for challenging presentations to wary trout. Equipment selection, rigging, leader formulas, flies, special technical presentations, and one on one guided fishing. Cost is $150 an angler, limited to 6 anglers. Rigging supplies, handouts, and a riverside lunch provided. Contact me now to reserve your spot. (Booked Diablo Valley Fly Fishers)
Winter time on the Lower Yuba River produces some very good hatches including the Skwala Stoneflies. On February 16th and March 9th I will lead a workshop totally devoted to understanding the Skwala hatch. With hundreds of days chasing this hatch, I’ve learned the important behaviors of the bugs and how they interact with the wild trout though out the system. You will learn about their habitats, timing, and overlooked aspects of the hatch. Rigging, flies, entomology, proper presentations, and one on one guiding. You will walk away with a much clearer vision of the Skwala hatch after this workshop. Cost is $150 an angler, limited to 6 anglers. Rigging supplies, handouts, and a riverside lunch provided. Contact me now to reserve your spot and learn about the winter stone. 2/16/2019 (Booked Diablo Valley Fly Fishers) 3/9/2019 (6 spots open)

LowerYuba River Fly Fishing Report
9/13/2018 – Flows are running at 865 cubes, They bumped it up a tad, and the water is clear. The salmon are already on their redds and are increasing in numbers on a daily basis. Nymphing and swinging has been productive, and dry fly action is excellent in the afternoons with Mahogany duns and BWOs. Fishing pressure is light at this time. For a more detailed report click HERE
Little Truckee River Fly Fishing Report
10/10/2018 – Fishing has been good, especially on cloudy days. More smaller fish are in the river now than the previous months. Consistent hatches of PMDs, BWOs, and alloperla green stones during mid day. Midge pupa is the most abundant food item day in and day out. Flows have stabilized at 40 cubes, but there is still cold water and suitable habitat for trout to thrive in. Look for holding water with depth.
Truckee River Fly Fishing Report
10/10/2018 – Fall ball is upon us on the Truckee River, the October caddis are out and the fish are starting to key in on them. Flows are skinny through the Glenshire stretch running at 105 cubes, but there is still fishable water. Better flows below the Boca inflow and through the canyon. Water temps range from 55-60 degrees. Sparse hatches of BWOs and caddis. Streamer fishing is starting to pick up, time to swing and strip for those big brown trout on the move for their annual fall spawn.
