Fly fishing Lake Davis is a must experience for the still water fly angler, it is one of the best trophy trout lakes in the western United States.  Lake Davis was made for fly fishing with its fertile shallows that offer the finest trout stalking from shore.  Sitting at 5,700 feet this beautiful lake in Plumas County is surrounded by tamarack pines and lush meadows which display abundant wild flowers during the summer season.  The pike are gone and the trout are back to grazing like cattle in the productive weed beds of Lake Davis.  You have got to wet a line and fly fish here to believe it!

The Best Seasons for Fishing Lake Davis

The best seasons of Lake Davis are spring and fall. Spring time brings the famous damsel fly hatch, where fishing to individual rainbow trout with the right damsel pattern can be thrilling at Lake Davis. As fall creeps in the fish feel the onslaught of winter coming and begin to gorge on any available food to fatten up for winter, fantastic blood midge hatches and sight fishing with the dry can be had. The fish get dumb and hungry now and this is when the fly fishing is at its best at Lake Davis.

The aquatic insect hatches of Lake Davis can be very profuse at times and that is what makes this lake so good for fly fishing. Blood midge, dozens of other small midges, calibaetis mayflies, backswimmers, and damselflies make their home at Lake Davis. Crayfish and snails are also on the menu for these rainbow trout.
